Asynchronous motor, also known as induction motor, is an AC motor that converts electromechanical energy into mechanical energy by generating electromagnetic torque through the interaction between the rotating magnetic field in the air gap and the induced current in the rotor winding.

Three phase asynchronous motors are mainly used as electric motors to drive various production machinery, such as fans, pumps, compressors, machine tools, light industry and mining machinery, threshers and crushers in agricultural production, processing machinery in agricultural and sideline products, and so on. Simple structure, easy manufacturing, low price, reliable operation, sturdy and durable, high operating efficiency, and applicable working characteristics.

Asynchronous motors are divided into two forms according to their rotor structure: 1. squirrel cage asynchronous motors and 2. wound asynchronous motors

An asynchronous motor that operates as an electric motor. Because its rotor winding current is induced, it is also known as an induction motor. Asynchronous motor is the most widely used and required type of motor among all types. About 90% of electric powered machinery in various countries are asynchronous motors, with small asynchronous motors accounting for over 70%. Asynchronous motors account for a significant proportion of the total load in the power system. In China, the electricity consumption of asynchronous motors accounts for over 60% of the total load.

Asynchronous motor is an AC motor, and the ratio of its speed under load to the frequency of the connected power grid is not a constant value. Induction motor is an asynchronous motor with only one set of windings connected to the power supply. Induction motors can generally be referred to as asynchronous motors without causing misunderstandings or confusion. The IEC standard states that the term “induction motor” is actually used as a synonym for “asynchronous motor” in many countries, while other countries only use the term “asynchronous motor” to represent these two concepts.
