The phenomenon where the voltage at the circuit end is in phase with the total current in a series circuit of resistors, inductors, and capacitors is called series resonance. The characteristics of series resonance are: the circuit is a pure resistor, the terminal voltage is in phase with the total current, the reactance X is equal to 0, and the impedance Z is equal to the resistance R. At this point, the impedance of the circuit decreases and the current increases, which may generate high voltages several times the power supply voltage on the inductors and capacitors. Therefore, series resonance also becomes voltage resonance.

The performance characteristics of series resonance are as follows:
