The function and use of grounding wire

Hanging a grounding wire is a safety barrier to protect maintenance personnel and is the lifeline of power workers, which can prevent sudden power outages from causing harm to the human body. However, in practical work, due to the frequent use and seemingly simple operation of grounding wires, it is easy for people to become complacent, and its importance is often overlooked. Incorrect use often occurs, resulting in a decrease or even sometimes loss of the safety protection function of grounding wires, which must be given sufficient attention.  

It is necessary to use grounding wires correctly, standardize the behavior of hanging and removing grounding wires, consciously cultivate a rigorous safety work style, improve one’s own safety quality, in order to reject hidden dangers thousands of miles away and avoid electrical accidents caused by grounding wire reasons. According to actual work, the use of grounding wires should pay attention to the following matters.  

1. Before starting work, it is necessary to check the grounding wire. Whether the soft copper wire is broken, whether the screw connection is loose, and whether the elasticity of the wire hook is normal. If it does not meet the requirements, it should be replaced or repaired in a timely manner before use.  

2. Before hanging the grounding wire, it is necessary to check the electricity beforehand. Hanging the grounding wire without checking the electricity is a common habitual violation in the grassroots. When hanging, the grounding wire should not come into contact with the body.  

3. There are many examples where grounding wires are hung at both ends of the workplace to prevent users from reversing or inducing electricity.  

4. When driving the grounding pile, it is necessary to quickly clear the high current caused by the accident and ensure the quality of the grounding.  

5. Take care of the grounding wire. The grounding wire should not be twisted during use. When not in use, the soft copper wire should be coiled properly. After removing the grounding wire, it should not be dropped from the air or thrown randomly on the ground. It should be transmitted with a rope and attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the grounding wire.  

6. New staff must undergo training and learning on the use of grounding wires, and pass the assessment before they can independently engage in grounding wire operation or use work.  

7. Select grounding wires of corresponding specifications according to different voltage levels.  

8. It is strictly prohibited to use other metal wires instead of grounding wires.  

9. On site work shall not omit the installation of grounding wires or change the location of grounding wires without authorization.  

10. The grounding wire has double-sided properties and serves a safety purpose. Improper use can also cause destructive effects, so it is necessary to remove the grounding wire in a timely manner after the work is completed. Closing switches with grounding wires can damage electrical equipment and disrupt the stability of the power grid, leading to serious and catastrophic electrical accidents.
